Raku fired Ikebana vase for dried or artificial flowers, or just a beautiful statement piece.
Hand built slab vase with lid. The design is heavily influenced by my interest in Japanese art and design. The shape inspiration is derived from Shinto Torri Gates. The surface is roughly decorated in layers of white crackle and copper matte glaze. There is a stark contrast between the white and the multi-coloured copper matte surfaces. The glaze surfaces are un-perfect to reflect time and decay, I allow some of the glaze to be applied very thickly which encourages it to crawl in places. The vase is Raku fired in a gas kiln then reduced in sawdust and newspaper.
The removal lid allows a florists foam block to be fitted inside the main body which can then support a flower arrangement.
